The Edwards School of Business hosted the 3rd annual Gordon & Maureen Haddock Entrepreneurial Speaker Series on March 16, 2009, featuring father and son duo Jim and Greg Yuel of PIC Investment Group Inc. With deep roots in Saskatoon’s business community, they shared the evolution of their entrepreneurial journey with humor and honesty. Their good-natured teasing kept the audience engaged, while their candid insights on sharing control, overcoming failures, setting aside ego, and maintaining life balance were truly inspiring. Through their conversation, Jim and Greg highlighted the mutual respect essential for businesses to grow and evolve across generations.

A Chartered Accountant with an entrepreneurial spirit, Ted built a successful career in the oil industry. During his talk, he emphasized the importance of recognizing one’s strengths and weaknesses and assembling teams accordingly. Passionate about international business, he encouraged students to explore global markets as a pathway to innovation. His dedication to fostering global business education led to the establishment of the Ted Hanlon Centre for International Business at the Murray Edwards School of Business, made possible by his generous $2 million donation.
The Edwards School of Business launched the 1st annual Gordon & Maureen Haddock Entrepreneurial Speaker Series on January 23, 2007, with W. Brett Wilson as the inaugural speaker. As Managing Director and Chairman of FirstEnergy Capital Corp., Brett shared his entrepreneurial journey, detailing the challenges and triumphs of building one of Canada’s most successful brokerage firms. His candid insights into the realities of entrepreneurship left a lasting impression on the audience. The event became even more memorable when Brett concluded his talk with a surprise announcement—a $1 million donation to establish the W. Brett Wilson Centre for Entrepreneurial Excellence. The room erupted in spontaneous cheers and applause, marking a truly special day in the series’ history.
